Biodiversity and dynamics of the bacterial community of packaged king scallop (Pecten maximus) meat during cold Storage ArchiMer
Coton, M.; Joffraud, Jean-jacques; Mekhtiche, L.; Leroi, Francoise; Coton, E..
The microbial biodiversity and dynamics of king scallops meat and coral during cold storage (cold chain rupture: 1/3 storage time at 4 degrees C followed by 213 at 8 degrees C), was assessed by combining culture-dependant and -independent methods. Products were packaged as follows: aerobic, vacuum packed and 3 different CO2/N-2 modified atmospheres and the impact of these conditions on the microbial communities was assessed. Results indicated that under air (current packaging condition), the dominant species corresponded to Brochothrix thermosphacta, Pseudomonas spp. and Shewanella spp. These species have regularly been associated in the literature with food (especially seafood), and product spoilage. Moellerella wisconsensis was the only species detected...

Eléments de réflexion pour l'évaluation économique de la filière d'élevage de la coquille Saint Jacques (1992) ArchiMer
Dao, Jean-claude; Fleury, Pierre-gildas; Paquotte, Philippe.
This document is made from reports of a working group joining together JFREMER biologists and economics to shape an economic evaluation of scallop Pecten maximus aquaculture. It lays out the synthesis of al1 available data on french scallop fisheries and market and takes stock of the farming technical results. The study also approaches the difficulties to implement this farming techniques and the problems linked with the development of a new aquacultural activity. This work contributes to determine the right research fields to cany out, to identify the projects which will be submitted to an economic analysis and to define the measures to take in order to allow an efficient technical transfer as well as a good sectorial survey

Evaluation du stock de coquilles Saint‐Jacques Pecten maximus de la baie de Seine. Résultats de la campagne scientifique COMOR 2019 (2 au 20 juillet 2019). ArchiMer
Foucher, Eric.
The assessment of the King scallop stock of the Bay of Seine (Pecten maximus) was carried out in July 2019, in the Bay of Seine sensu stricto, located in French territorial waters (from the Normandy coast to the south to the limit of 12 nautical miles to the North), as well as the bordering zone lying north of this 12-mile limit and up to a latitude of 49°48N to the North, called "Extérieur Baie de Seine". For this, a scientific survey, based on a stratified random sampling plan, was conducted aboard the F/R Thalia, a coastal research vessel of the French Oceanographic Fleet. Nearly 170 sampling points were completed in the whole area. Analysis of these data leads to an overall increase in exploitable biomass over the entire area. Outside the Bay of Seine,...

Modelling larval dispersal of the king scallop (Pecten maximus) in the English Channel: examples from the bay of Saint-Brieuc and the bay of Seine ArchiMer
Nicolle, Amandine; Dumas, Franck; Foveau, Aurelie; Foucher, Eric; Thiebaut, Eric.
The king scallop (Pecten maximus) is one of the most important benthic species of the English Channel as it constitutes the first fishery in terms of landings in this area. To support strategies of spatial fishery management, we develop a high-resolution biophysical model to study scallop dispersal in two bays along the French coasts of the English Channel (i.e. the bay of Saint-Brieuc and the bay of Seine) and to quantify the relative roles of local hydrodynamic processes, temperature-dependent planktonic larval duration (PLD) and active swimming behaviour (SB). The two bays are chosen for three reasons: (1) the distribution of the scallop stocks in these areas is well known from annual scallop stock surveys, (2) these two bays harbour important fisheries...

Fleury, Pierre-gildas; Paquotte, Philippe.
This report is a technical and financial analysis of a project of a shellfish farm in open sea which diversifies with the implementation of a scallop activity. It lays out first the technical description of the project, its size and the choice of rearing standards. After the working out of investments, operating costs and expected receipts, the analysis deals with the marginal profitability of the scallop activity and the financial consequences of its implementation in the farm. Then, there is a discussion on the sensitiveness of the results to the variations of the technical and economic parameters and on different possible rearing strategies

Two decades of Pseudo-nitzschia spp. blooms and king scallop (Pecten maximus) contamination by domoic acid along the French Atlantic and English Channel coasts: Seasonal dynamics, spatial heterogeneity and interannual variability ArchiMer
Husson, Berengere; Hernandez Farinas, Tania; Le Gendre, Romain; Schapira, Mathilde; Chapelle, Annie.
King scallop contamination (Pecten maximus) by domoic acid, a neurotoxin produced by some species of the diatom Pseudo-nitzschia, is highly problematic because of its lengthy retention in the bivalve tissue, leading to prolonged fishery closures. Data collected within the French Phytoplankton and Phycotoxin monitoring network (REPHY) over the 1995–2012 period were used to characterize the seasonal dynamics and the interannual variability of P.-nitzschia spp. blooms as well as the contamination of king scallop fishing grounds, in six contrasted bays distributed along the French Atlantic coast and English Channel. Monitoring revealed that these toxic events have become more frequent since the year 2000, but with varying magnitudes, frequencies and timing...
